United Fresh AGM 2018

The 27th United Fresh AGM took place on Thursday the 28th of June.

The 27th United Fresh AGM took place on Thursday the 28th of June. It was headed by Jerry Prendergast, MGs National Key Accounts and Brand Development Manager who is also the United Fresh President. Jerry shared United Fresh’s new strategic direction, vision and mission to connect the fresh fruit and vegetable value chain by providing services and representation to industry.

The committee launched a new set of guidelines around Weights and Measures requirements which aids produce packers with a detailed document of legal obligations to ensure they fully understand what is involved.  This was a culmination of work between The United Fresh United Fresh Technical Advisory Group and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) over the past 12 months.  If you would like a copy of this, please contact United Fresh - info@unitedfresh.co.nz

NZ based food and nutrition writer, speaker, and editor of Healthy Food Guide, Niki Bezzant, presented at the AGM about diet trends. Niki spoke about the decline of ‘fad’ dieting, however placed an importance on how plant-based diets seem to be the only diet that is rising. Niki encouraged we should all be using the hashtag #plantbased.

Dr Hans Maurer elaborated on the current projects conducted by the Technical Advisory Group (TAG). It was insightful to learn about what effect the new nutrition and health claims Standard had on food labels in New Zealand from Donnell Alexander from MPI. Since the launch of the new Standard 1.2.7: Nutrition, Health and Related Claims in 2013, we have seen a growth in the number of Nutritional Content Claims on Fruit and Vegetable products.
